DISCOVER an ADVANCED SPECTACLE BLIND FLANGES alternative

Operate in minutes, without tools, and outperform conventional pipe isolation methods such as spectacle blinds, slip blinds, figure-8 spectacle blinds and blind plates. Onis OSHA compliant isolation blinds physically disconnect the pipe and will not allow any leakage from the upstream to downstream. Onis blinds enable full pipe isolation in minutes, so non-productive time is minimized and significantly optimizes process production, safety, and economics. With Onis sealing technology, these products are ideal for the most extreme temperature and dirty process conditions.

Traditional Isolation Methods don’t Measure Up!

Spectacle blinds, for instance, are often used to isolate pipeline sections so maintenance or repairs can be performed, but deploying them can be time-consuming, messy, and labor-intensive. Our advanced line blank technology provides 100% positive isolation to keep your operators and equipment secure. ONIS has provided this technology for more than 46 years. Our experience makes us a world leader in providing isolation equipment for critical processes in global markets, including petrochemical, specialty chemical processes, mining, refining, and midstream petroleum transmission and storage.

The ONIS Quick Action Line blinds are an advanced type of pipe spectacle blinds that allow operators or maintenance personnel to isolate equipment quickly—typically within minutes—without needing special tools. With these ONIS blinds, an operator can easily separate a flanged connection, insert a blank, and reconnect the two pipe flanges in just a few minutes.

Cost-effective in just a few months for processes requiring recurring blinding operations.

The Onis Quick Action Line blind valve is designed for critical applications according to ASME B16.48 Standard and OSHA 1910.146 US Standards among other global safety guidelines for isolating energized equipment. The technology outperforms isolation double block and bleed valves by preventing downstream leakage if the internal sealing elements fail. In contrast, ONIS blinds create a physical separation between upstream and downstream flanges, ensuring that upstream fluid cannot migrate to the downstream side. This makes it ideal for critical applications where any leakage must be prevented during maintenance. ONIS blinds incude advanced technologies such as an integrated cam system. This allows operators to perform a pressure-contained line break with minimal effort and in just a few steps. Importantly, this equipment eliminates the need for technicians to dismantle or reassemble flanges using bolts and pipe spreading tools.

    How does it work?

Difference between traditional blinding like figure-8 and an Onis Line Blind.

Onis offers advanced spectacle blind technologies that optimize isolation performance for critical process applications. These OSHA compliant isolation blinds provide significant maintenance time reduction, being over 95% faster than traditional options like figure-8 blinds, spectacle blinds, paddle blinds or paddle spacers. They enhance safety by ensuring complete isolation from upstream to downstream through physical disconnection and sealing of pipe ends. Moreover, Onis blinds guarantee increased reliability with superior sealing technology that prevents any downstream leakage, even under extreme process conditions.

Note: As for the traditional blanking system, before the operation of the ONIS Line blind (QLB), the pipe must be depressurized before starting the blinding operation.

Caution, even if the product is called Onis line blind valve, it is not a valve because it can’t completely replace a valve due to the pipe opening, it only allows mechanizing a figure-8 blind / spectacle blind flange.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How does an ONIS blind work?

An ONIS blind is a mechanized spectacle blind which permits a person without any tools to spread the pipe thanks to a cam system comprised of eccentric shafts that permit the sliding movement of a slab plate comprised of a blank or thru-bore feature.

What range of products can you supply ?

We have manufactured equipment from 1’’ to 52’’, up to 6,100 psi, with temperature ratings from -185°F to +1200°F. Our blinds are specialized and often supplied to project specific requirements and use cases.

Do ONIS devices are compatible with all types of media ? Gas, fluid, with particles ?

All types of media have been operated with ONIS devices. Fluids, slurries, abrasives, gas-charged media with particles, etc.

Can ONIS Quick Action Line blind replace a valve?

No, a mechanized line blind is not a valve. It is a mechanical device which replaces figure 8 or spectacle blinds where it is required to open a pressure containing connection to atmosphere and slide a blank to fully disconnect the upstream flange from the downstream flange. A line blind is a real positive isolation device and a valve is not: when a valve leaks, the leak is going downstream into the pipe. With a line blind, it is impossible because upstream and downstream pipes are physically separated with a steel plate. More information on the blog article “Positive Isolation Level of piping.”
